Shiv Puran is a book based on the various stories of Lord Shiva. Shiv, which means the auspicious one, is a popular Hindu deity and is regarded as one of the primary forms of god in Hinduism.

He is one of the three most influential gods in contemporary Hinduism and is considered the supreme god within Shaivism. Shiva in his more benevolent form is depicted as a yogi who lives an ascetic life on mount Kailash. The most iconic attributes of Lord Shiva are the third eye on his forehead, a snake around his neck, the crescent moon adorning, the holy river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, the trishul as his weapon, and the damaru as his instrument.

Shiv Puran is a book dedicated to Lord Shiva. In one particular tale Lord Brahma falls in love with his own daughter who was born from his flesh, due to a spell put on him by Lord Kamdeva. Lord Shiva on hearing this ridicules Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma is angered by the ridicule and asks his son Daksha to procreate and Sati is born. Sati through intense meditation gains the attention of Lord Shiva, who falls in love with her and marries her. But Sati's father Daksha insults Lord Shiva in front of her. Sati who is unable to bear the insults hurled at her beloved, throws herself into a fire. This greatly angers Lord Shiva who in his anger beheads Daksha.

Shiv Puran is a beautifully written book about Lord Shiva. It is ideal for people who want to learn more about one of the three main deities of Hinduism. It is a collection of the timeless stories of Lord Shiva. The book is authored by Vinay and was published by Diamond Books in the year 2012. The book is written in Gujarati and available in paperback.
